Privacy Policy
Weam is designed to collect only the information needed to operate the directory, review community contributions, provide location-based features, and respond to messages.

Information you provide
Place submissions
When you use Add a Place, the information you submit may include the place name, category, location, area, phone number, opening hours, description, and photos. If a submission is approved, that information may become part of a public listing.
Reports
When you report incorrect information about a listing, what you submit may include suggested corrections to the name, category, location, hours, or phone number, a suggested location, report details, and references to any photos you flagged.
Contact messages
When you use the Contact form, what you submit may include a topic, your message, and an optional email address or phone number if you'd like a reply.
Location information
Near Me
When you choose "Use my location" on Near Me, your device location is used in your browser to calculate nearby places. Weam does not intentionally submit that location as a form contribution.
Add Place and location corrections
When you add a place or correct its location, the location you choose is submitted as information about that place. If the listing is approved, that place location may become visible publicly and may be used for maps, directions, and Nearby results.
Photos
Photos selected for an Add Place submission are resized and compressed in your browser before being submitted. Submitted photos are stored with the contribution for review and may be published with an approved listing.
Technical information
Our hosting and infrastructure providers may process technical information needed to deliver, secure, and operate the service, such as IP address, browser/device information, request timestamps, and similar service logs.
Cookies and analytics
Weam does not currently use advertising cookies or behavioral analytics tools. Your browser may store a small local preference, such as your light/dark theme choice, directly on your device.
Maps and geocoding
Viewing a map (Search, Near Me, category, or area results, and the manual location picker) loads map tiles from OpenFreeMap. When you use location search, the manual location picker's search box, or a location correction, requests are also sent to Geoapify so location suggestions or address information can be returned. Technical request information (such as IP address) may be processed by these providers. See Geoapify's privacy policy for details.

Information described above is used to:
- operate search, maps, and Nearby
- review and publish place submissions
- review corrections
- respond to contact messages
- prevent abuse and spam
- maintain and secure the service

Google Sheets
An internal moderation working view for Add Place and Report submissions. The public website does not read its place listings from this sheet — it is a working view for the team only, and Contact messages are never mirrored into it.
OpenFreeMap
Provides the map tiles/style behind every map shown in Weam. Rendering a map does not require an account or API key.
Geoapify
Location search and geocoding — used by location search, the manual location picker, and location corrections, not for map tiles.
MapLibre
The open-source library Weam uses to render maps in the browser. It is a client-side library, not a remote service — it does not itself receive Weam data. The map styles and tiles it renders come from OpenFreeMap, described above.
Public information
Approved listing details are intended to be public. This can include the place name, category, area/location, phone number, opening hours, description, and approved photos. Contributor contact details (such as an email or phone number left on a Contact message) are not made public.
Data retention
We keep submissions, reports, contact messages, and moderation records for as long as reasonably needed to review them, operate the directory, maintain records of moderation decisions, prevent abuse, and meet applicable legal obligations. Information that is no longer needed may be deleted or anonymized.
Data sharing
Weam does not sell personal information. Information may be processed by the service providers described above where necessary to operate the product. Public listing information is not private — it is intended to be visible to anyone using Weam.
Your choices and privacy requests
Depending on where you live, you may have rights concerning personal information associated with you, such as requesting access, correction, or deletion. To make a request, contact Weam and choose "Privacy request" as the topic.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures intended to protect information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Weam changes. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page shows when the policy was last revised.
